Testing for heteroskedasticity and spatial correlation in a random effects panel data model
نویسندگان
چکیده
A panel data regression model with heteroskedastic as well as spatially correlated disturbancesis considered, and a joint LM test for homoskedasticity and no spatial correlation is derived. In addition, a conditional LM test for no spatial correlation given heteroskedasticity, as well as a conditional LM test for homoskedasticity given spatial correlation, are also derived. These LM tests are compared with marginal LM tests that ignore heteroskedasticity in testing for spatial correlation, or spatial correlation in testing for homoskedasticity. Monte Carlo results show that these LM tests as well as their LR counterparts perform well even for small N and T. However, misleading inference can occur when using marginal rather than joint or conditional LM tests when spatial correlation or heteroskedasticity is present. JEL Code: C12 and C23

Spatial Correlation Testing for Errors in Panel Data Regression Model
To investigate the spatial error correlation in panel regression models, various statistical hypothesizes and testings have been proposed. This paper, within introduction to spatial panel data regression model, existence of spatial error correlation and random effects is investigated by a joint Lagrange Multiplier test, which simultaneously tests their existence. For this purpose, joint Lagrang...
متن کاملTesting Panel Data Regression Models with Spatial Error Correlation*
This paper derives several Lagrange Multiplier tests for the panel data regression model wih spatial error correlation. These tests draw upon two strands of earlier work. The Þrst is the LM tests for the spatial error correlation model discussed in Anselin (1988, 1999) and Anselin, Bera, Florax and Yoon (1996), and the second is the LM tests for the error component panel data model discussed in...
متن کاملTesting for Serial Correlation in Fixed-Effects Panel Data Models
In this paper, we propose three new tests for serial correlation in the disturbances of fixed-effects panel data models. First, a modified Bhargava, Franzini and Narendranathan (1982) panel Durbin-Watson statistic that does not need to be tabulated as it follows a standard normal distribution. Second, a modified Baltagi and Li (1991) LM statistic with limit distribution independent of T , and, ...
متن کاملBayesian Quantile Regression with Adaptive Lasso Penalty for Dynamic Panel Data
Dynamic panel data models include the important part of medicine, social and economic studies. Existence of the lagged dependent variable as an explanatory variable is a sensible trait of these models. The estimation problem of these models arises from the correlation between the lagged depended variable and the current disturbance. Recently, quantile regression to analyze dynamic pa...
متن کاملTesting in a Random Effects Panel Data Model with Spatially Correlated Error Components and Spatially Lagged Dependent Variables
We propose a random effects panel data model with both spatially correlated error components and spatially lagged dependent variables. We focus on diagnostic testing procedures and derive Lagrange multiplier (LM) test statistics for a variety of hypotheses within this model. We first construct the joint LM test for both the individual random effects and the two spatial effects (spatial error co...
